No experience or preparation is required to audition! Must be 18+.

CHARACTER LIST & DESCRIPTIONS:

The below character descriptions are from the script. Ages should be considered only as a general guideline. All roles are available.

  • VANYA – 50s, living in Bucks County. Resigned to his life, more or less, at least compared to Sonia.

  • SONIA – his adopted sister, early 50s, living with him in Bucks County. Discontent, upset, regretful.

  • MASHA – his sister, 50s, glamorous and successful actress who goes gallivanting around the world.

  • SPIKE – an aspiring actor, 29 or younger, Masha’s new companion. Sexy, self-absorbed, but otherwise outgoing and friendly.

  • NINA – lovely, sincere, would-be actress, early 20s, visiting her aunt and uncle next door. Star struck, earnest and energetic.

  • CASSANDRA – cleaning lady and soothsayer, any age, any race. In the original production she was played by an African-American actress in her 20s.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

Middle-aged siblings Vanya and Sonia share a home in Bucks County, PA, where they bicker and complain about the circumstances of their lives. Suddenly, their movie-star sister, Masha, swoops in with her new boy toy, Spike. Old resentments flare up, eventually leading to threats to sell the house. Also on the scene are sassy maid Cassandra, who can predict the future, and a lovely young aspiring actress named Nina, whose prettiness somewhat worries the imperious Masha. *Content Warning: Show contains some Crude Language and Adult Themes*

March 21, 22, 23 and 28, 29, 30

DIRECTOR PROPOSALS DUE SOON FOR THE 2025 SUMMER YOUTH SHOW

Interested in directing our next Summer Youth Production? Proposals for the 2025 Summer Youth Show are due by JANUARY 31, 2025. Fill out our online 2025 Summer Youth Show Proposal Form before it's too late! You can submit multiple shows for consideration, but please fill out and submit one form for each show you are proposing. Visit our Submit a Show page for more info or email questions to Sam Sherburne, IPI Artistic Director, at: artisticdirector@indianaplayers.com

Per IPI policy, anyone directing a mainstage production must have previous directing or stage management experience with the Indiana Players.
